Shosholoza Heavy Mineral Project: Launching a New Era in Commercial Mining

The Shosholoza Heavy Mineral Project is set to revolutionize commercial mining, targeting one of the world’s oldest and richest heavy mineral deposits. With operations starting in 2025, we aim to deliver high-value minerals efficiently and profitably.

Mining Rights Application and Project Timeline

In 2024, we applied for mining rights, and our application has been accepted by the Department of Mineral Resources (DMR). We are currently finalizing the requirements to secure the final approval, aiming to begin a full-scale commercial mining operation in 2025.

Exploration Phase and Mining Plan

During the exploration phase, we confirmed the high quality of heavy mineral content in both the rock and sand deposits. By collaborating with industry experts, we have developed a comprehensive mining plan set to launch immediately upon receiving the final approval for mining rights.

Mining Operation Overview

Type

The mining operation will be an open-cast mine.

Depth

The maximum depth will be approximately 12 meters below the surface.

Method

We will employ a gravity separation process, which minimizes operational costs.

With an estimated all-inclusive margin of around 60%, this project is expected to be highly profitable.

Key Definitions

  • Beneficiation: This process involves treating milled ore using methods based on differences such as size, density, magnetic, or electrostatic susceptibility. The goal is to remove barren material and separate valuable components into concentrates. However, separation processes are not 100% efficient, leading to potential losses and contamination.
  • Open-Cast Mining: Also known as open-pit mining, this method involves excavating from the surface to access valuable minerals. The entire volume of material within a defined area is excavated for treatment, focusing on surface-level mineral extraction.

    Project Longevity and Phased Implementation

    Estimated Mine Lifespan

    Over 100 years.

    Phased Development:

We plan to initiate Phase 1 and Phase 2 of the mining operation in 2025/2026, focusing on the extraction and beneficiation of both rock and sand deposits.

    Processing Capacity:

We anticipate processing approximately 400,000 metric tons of material per month.
